So, I WAS a part-time police dispatcher.  Then I became a 12 hour a day police dispatcher.  Then my brain exploded!!  So, now I am doing tax prep with the second largest company for that in the USA.  But, soon the season will be over and I will be glad to draw my unemployment for awhile.  That will give me some time to get caught up on housework and mending and lots of crafting!!  I love Xanga and would very much like to have the time and energy to give more to the input here!!

  • January 5th

Today will be another 12 hours at work.  I have a very solid offer to apply at another police department.  I will be going there Tuesday afternoon.  Although I do not have this new job yet, and although it is not a sure thing that I will, I have already changed the schedules for the next two weeks in order to get the four days of sick time I have earned.  That way I won't just lose it!!  It's a good thing I feel so confident about this job change!!

I got SO EXCITED the other day when I discovered that a new Steve & Barry's opened in Birmingham.  The closest one had been in Huntsville.  My step mother and I both wanted to go and check it out, but couldn't muster up enough desire for the long drive!!  Since I had to be in Birmingham the other day, I went to check it out.  Well, the main store wasn't open yet (in what used to be a Wal-Mart) - but, the "liquidation center" where another, smaller store had been in the same shopping center, was open.  Even though they were very limited in what they had due to the Christmas insanity, it was GREAT!!  I got a pair of "Bitten" jeans for $8.95!!  They really have a good fit.  Of course, even though I got them in Short--they will have to be cut off about 6 inches.  Not their fault, I am a Hobbitt!!!  I saw a T-shirt I should have bought.  It will drive me nuts till I go back and get it.  It says: I AM IN SHAPE  --  ROUND IS A SHAPE  !!!!!  Too perfect for me!!!

Once upon a time, I was very politically motivated.  I have worked on several political campaigns over the years--local, state and national----red, blue and independant---I have always chosen my political battles by the PERSON instead of by the PARTY.  My dad was a true "yellow dog Democrat".  I prefer to figure things out one person, one race at a time.  It is hard to be a true open minded voter in this day and age.  If I don't jump into one color or the other with both feet--each "side" thinks I belong to the other!!!  I just can't bring myself to swear by any one party or program---I couldn't even bring myself to vote by size in the last state wide elections!!  The lady who was a big gal like me just couldn't win my vote--simply because she was corrupt!!  How DARE a fat gal like me not vote for the fat gal!!!!!

I'm trying something for the first time in my life--if there is a quote above this, then it worked--if there is some java message and an underlined webpage, then it didn't.  I wasn't totally sure of what they wanted me to do when I copied and pasted the link.  I just had to guess at where to put it.  If it works--great!! If not, I will try it another way the next time.

Meanwhile, I am going to put in an application at another police department on my off day this week.  It is closer to home and in my own county.  The pay is better as well.  (The pay is better EVERYWHERE else!!)  It is so totally wrong for a police dispatcher to make less money per hour than the kid who hands them a biscuit at the hamburger joint on the way to work every morning!!!  I never would have taken this job to begin with if my unemployment had not run out.  With this starting out as part time, and the pay being so low--I began with pay checks that just barely equaled the unemployment I had been getting.  Turn over is very high here, so it didn't take long to be full time, and then BEYOND full time!!  This week I will have 40 regular hours, 16 overtime hours and 16 hours of holiday pay.  Yes, I worked Christmas Eve and Christmas day--12 hours each day!!  We had our Christmas on Friday.  The only advantage to having a holiday on a regular day is that the stores are all open if you need them and the traffic isn't so bad.

Our Christmas was GREAT--got to see the grand daughter who had been kept away for 2 1/2 years.  She has grown up so much!!  We have just barely been able to have any contact with her at all in that time.  The event which caused us to be put on the poop list by her mom was. . . never mind--that is all water under the bridge now, and all that really matters is that we got to have a great Christmas!  All the forces of the universe had to have come together in order for this to have come into existance.  We are just SOOOOOO glad that it worked out good.

I had to put most of my art projects on hold for the holidays--partly because there was so much to get made for the holidays and partly because of having to work so many extra hours!!  There is so much I want to be able to do RIGHT NOW!!  I have too many supplies in too many rooms at home.  It would take me several days to get all my supplies sorted through and placed into my craft room upstairs.  -----  Then, at the absolute worse possible time, hubby told me last night that he has heard a RAT in my craft room!!  He tried bringing the cat in, but the cat ran down the stairs when she heard it.  He tried getting the rat terrier to get it, but she ran down the stairs when she heard it.  He didn't try to get ChiChi Rodrigues to go after it, cause the rat most likely is bigger than ChiChi!!!

Maybe I should use the 4 sick days I have earned to make some time to 1. locate and kill the rat  2.  put the last two sheets of wall board up in the craft room  3.  put the big light fixture up over the craft table  4.  get all the art supplies upstairs and put away.  Then, as I get going at the new job, making the same money in fewer hours and having more time to create--I can just go up the stairs and kick into high gear!!!

Send all the good thoughts you can!!

About Me

  • Hubby and I built our own cottage--24 foot square with 12x24 creative space upstairs. I love doing paper art--ATCs, mail art, handmade postcards, handmade stationary and envelopes. Work more than full time as a police dispatcher in a tiny, crazy town (I could and SHOULD write a book!!!). Perpetually positive to the point of being a royal pain in the butt of my permanently negative-thinking hubby!!! (I am just SO good for him!!) I took the handmade pledge and joined the wake up walmart effort. I AM NOT VEGAN!!! Sorry, don't mean to offend anyone, but--I had a vegetarian roommate while expecting my first child. The baby made me eat MEAT!!!
